Minister of Territorial Administration and Development David Lokyan, Head of the Vanadzor Solid Waste Program of the German Development Bank KfW Alero Agboghoroma, Senior Technical Program Officer Bernard Schenki and Representative of the Armenian Office of the Bank Zara Chatinyan progress in implementing programs in the field of solid waste management.
As the press service of the ministry informed ArmInfo, the head of the department highly appreciated the current level of cooperation between Armenia and KfW within the framework of the program for management of solid domestic wastes. During the meeting the parties discussed the problems that arose at the preliminary stage of the program implementation, in particular, in connection with the dislocation of the future dump and its further management.
The interlocutors also discussed technical and other issues of an organizational nature, outlined further steps.
To recall, the program "The concept of municipal solid waste management in Vanadzor" is also implemented with the support of KfW. Back in August 2011, Armenia and KfW signed an agreement on the financing of an expert study in the field of solid waste management in the city of Vanadzor and nearby communities. At 650 thousand EUR from KfW it was planned to assess the quality of services for garbage disposal in these communities, a list of activities to improve the service and the necessary funding for this will also be presented. David Lokyan said at the final press conference on December 26, 2016, the Armenian government is preparing to sign a credit agreement with the KfW bank for garbage collection in Vanadzor. According to him, a loan of 6.3 million euro is expected from KfW. Another 4 million are planned to be attracted in the form of grants, including from the Government of Germany. The agreement is planned to be concluded in the near future. These funds are planned to create a garbage collection system for Vanadzor (the 3rd largest in Armenia) and the entire Lori region, as well as the city of Dilijan in Tavush. In the village of Karadzor, 13 m from Vanadzor, a regional dump for EU requirements will be created, and in Dilijan - a point for garbage pressing for transportation.
