ArmInfo. The countries of the Eurasian Union are discussing the formation of a common sugar market. The head of the EEC Tigran Sargsyan told journalists on October 25 following the meeting of the Eurasian intergovernmental council in Yerevan.
According to him, there is a difficult situation in the sphere, which was reported by the Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation. "The commission instructed the board to conduct a study of this topic in terms of the formation of common approaches, in particular regarding the supply of raw materials for the production of sugar in our common territory, so that we do not undermine the production of sugar beets available in the EEC countries," Sargsyan said.
Now there is a segmentation of the Eurasian market for different types of sugar, obtained from different raw materials. The head of the EEC noted the importance of resolving the situation in such a way as to ensure equal competition and not infringed upon the rights of sugar producers who use raw materials imported from third countries.
To note, on the initiative of Russia the agenda of today's meeting of the intergovernmental council included the issue of the situation in the sugar market. The industry, as indicated by Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, was in a rather difficult situation. As of August 1, wholesale prices for sugar fell by almost 44% to the level of 2014. "We disturbs us not because we produce a lot of sugar, I recently met with the producers and owners of these enterprises, and we agreed to conduct a joint analysis of the applied tariff benefits for the import of sugar and make a joint decision on the results of the analysis that would help to improve the situation", the head of the Russian government said.
