Minister of Economic Development and Investments of the Republic of Armenia Suren Karayan received a delegation headed by Chairman of the Council of the Iraqi Representatives Committee Abdelbari Al-Zibari, which also included members of the Iraq-Armenia parliamentary friendship group. This was reported by the press service of the department.
"Despite the fact that there are tendencies of development of economic cooperation between the countries, there is still potential for growth of trade and economic relations," S. Karayan noted. Abdelbari Al-Zebari for his part noted that Iraq sees the need to improve economic performance with Armenia.
In this connection A. Al-Zibari proposed to make efforts to improve the indicators, in particular in the sphere of tourism. The Iraqi representative added that steps must be taken to increase the flow of Iraqi tourists to Armenia. "Iraqi citizens treat the Armenian population very well and value Armenian hospitality," he explained. "The Armenian community in Iraq has always been distinguished by its high business, cultural and other abilities," Al-Zibari summed up.
According to the source, S.Karayan received an invitation to Iraq to discuss the prospects for the development of economic relations between the countries.
According to the National Statistical Service of Armenia, the foreign trade turnover between Armenia and Iraq in January-September 2017 was $ 88.2 million with an annual decline of 13%. At the same time, the volume of exports decreased by 13.1% to $ 88 million, while imports increased 2.8 times to $ 201.9 thousand.
