ArmInfo. The World Bank will open additional financing for Armenia in the form of a loan of $ 2 million for the implementation of the program "Improving the irrigation system". This is reported by the Armenian office of the World Bank.
According to the source, 630 farmers of Armenia will be able to use the program, which is aimed at increasing efficiency and sustainable irrigation. The project plans to build a new gravity channel Bagramyan-Norakert with a length of 5 km. The canal will feed on the waters of Lake Sevan. The current channel is not able to provide reliable supplies of irrigation water to agricultural areas of the villagers. The loan will be provided by the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development for a period of 25 years with a 15.5-year grace period on the floating spread. The financing is aimed at helping the government's efforts to ensure stable and effective irrigation by reducing energy use and improving the quality of water supply.
According to the director of the Armenian office of the World Bank Silvia Bosutro, with the mediation of the bank, the problem of water shortage faced by farmers will decrease, reliability and timeliness of water supply will increase, which, in turn, will increase the productivity of the villagers. In addition, the program will enable farmers to use modern technologies, including a drip irrigation system.
Recall that since 1992, Armenia has received from the World Bank financial resources worth about $ 2.3 billion.
