ArmInfo. Prime Minister of Armenia Karen Karapetyan met with the Minister of Oil of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the General Director of the National Gas Company Hamid Reza Araki. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Armenia Seyed Kazem Sadjadi attended the meeting.
According to the government press service, the parties discussed the implementation of the agreements reached in October during the official visit of Prime Minister Karapetyan to Iran, as well as a number of issues related to economic cooperation.
According to the source, the participants attached special importance to the implementation of mutually beneficial programs in the energy sector, the launch of FEZ in Meghri, and the creation of joint export- and import-oriented enterprises.
The Prime Minister, noting the increase in the export of goods from Armenia to Iran by 9%, stressed that the potential for this indicator to climb is high. He expressed confidence that the above-mentioned programs will give a new impetus to the development and expansion of economic ties between Armenia and Iran.
According to the National Statistical Service of Armenia, the foreign trade turnover between Armenia and Iran in January-September 2017 increased by 10% to $ 197.5 million. At the same time, exports increased by 9% to $ 62.9 million, and imports - by 10.4% to $ 134.6 million.
