French Development Agency jointly with EU will grant a grant of 10 million euros to improve the irrigation system in Armavir and Ararat districts of Armenia

ArmInfo. The French Development  Agency (FDA) together with the EU will grant a grant of 10 million  euros under the program "Irrigated Agriculture". Armenian Deputy  Minister of Agriculture Armen Harutyunyan stated this at a press  conference on December 19, reporting on programs aimed at developing  agricultural infrastructures in the country.

According to the Deputy Minister, the program is designed for three  years (2018-2020), the goal is to improve the irrigation system in  Armavir and Ararat regions of Armenia. The financing will be directed  to the introduction of a drip irrigation system, the laying of  secondary irrigation canals and the consolidation of land. The funds  will be allocated to the Agricultural Development Fund, which in turn  will be responsible for the implementation of the program.

The current program, as indicated by the deputy minister, is  interlinked with another, also financed by the FAR - the program for  the construction of the Vedi reservoir. The latter should provide  reliable irrigation of 7,500 hectares of land in the Ararat plain. It  is expected that following the results of the implementation of the  two programs it will be possible to resolve the issue of irrigation  of the agricultural lands of the region.
