ArmInfo. "For the first time in the last 3-4 years this year in Armenia, we see a minimum increase in the price of eggs on the eve of New Year's holidays." Almost all Armenian egg producers sent their products to large supermarkets and stores so that there were no price increases for the New Year deficit," the chairman of the Union of Poultry Breeders of Armenia Sergey Stepanyan stated at a press conference on December 23.
The chairman of the Union of Poultry Farmers also noted that the price of eggs rose in October by about 3- 5 drams, and in November there was a shortage of eggs. As Stepanyan said, this is due to the fact that there are not enough laying hens in Armenia, they need to be purchased from abroad, however, this is not always enough, and in February and March 2017 in connection with the bird flu in RA did not import a new batch of chickens. However, at the moment, according to Stepanyan, this problem has been solved. Stepanyan stressed that to solve the problem of purchasing expensive laying hens by Armenian producers, the Poultry Union sent a letter to the Government to assist in this matter. "The government promised to tackle this issue in the near future," Stepanyan said.
As for the fact that in some supermarkets there is still a rise in the price of eggs, the chairman of the Poultry Union said that this concerns only those eggs that are sold in boxes and entered the store through an intermediary, as well as imported eggs.
