ArmInfo. As of December 25, 2017, the passenger traffic in Armenian airports was 2.5 million people, with an annual growth of 21%. This was stated by the Head of the General Department of Civil Aviation of Armenia Sergey Avetisyan at a press conference on December 26.
According to him, the airport "Zvartnots" served about 2.4 million people, while Shirak airport had about 100.000 passengers. The head of the GDCA noted that at the moment 28 airlines operate 30-35 daily, without taking into account irregular flights. By and large, the dynamics of the expansion of the geography of flights positively impact the dynamics. In particular, in 2017 new directions opened - Astana, Damascus, Tel Aviv, Beirut, Minsk, etc.
He informed that the takeoffs-landing increased by an annualized rate of 18.2% - up to 10,752 thousand flights. In total, 53,270 transit flights were serviced, which is more than the figure of a year ago by 40%. "The year was quite active and dynamic," he stressed. According to S. Avetisyan, air traffic has also registered growth. Cargo transportation by air transport for the reporting year increased by 30% - up to 20.5 thousand tons.
According to the National Statistical Service of Armenia, in 2016, passenger traffic in Armenia increased by 10.4% to 2.1 million people. Cargo transportation by air transport for the reporting period increased by 79.4% to 18.3 thousand tons.
