ArmInfo. On February 2, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan held a meeting with members of the Public Services Regulatory Commission (PSRC).
According to the message of the press service of Armenian head of state, Serzh Sargsyan noted that the meeting is due to the fact that as a result of the constitutional amendments the PSRC becomes an autonomous body, a new law has been adopted, the status and requirements for its members are changing. The President asked the participants of the meeting what problems occurred during this period, how the changes affected the current activities of the Commission and what needs to be done to further improve the quality of the services provided.
PSRC Chairman Robert Nazaryan said that the work of the Commission in 2016-2017. was aimed at improving the legislative framework, liberalizing the electricity market, developing interstate trade, improving regulatory mechanisms, implementing tariff policy, investment programs. Robert Nazaryan also presented work on improving regulatory mechanisms in the field of energy, water and electronic communications, as well as tariff policy.
At the end of the meeting, President Serzh Sargsyan noted that Armenia's participation in various integration processes gives a new impetus and quality to the activities of economic entities engaged in public services. He instructed the Commission to respond to programs aimed at the economic development and progress of Armenia. The President called not to be satisfied with the results achieved and continue to apply the best international experience, improve and harmonize tools and mechanisms for regulating public services with modern requirements.
The President also stressed the need to improve the legal framework, protect the interests of consumers and their direct participation in the regulatory process.
