ArmInfo. Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian, during a meeting with US Assistant Secretary of State for Economic and Business Affairs Brian McFithers, highly assessed the Armenian-American partnership. The press service of the Armenian Foreign Ministry told ArmInfo.
The Armenian Minister stressed the importance of high-level contacts, creating good opportunities for discussing issues of the bilateral and multilateral agenda. In this context, Nalbandian recalled that last month Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Bridget Brink visited Yerevan, with whom the sides discussed the possibilities of maximizing trade and economic relations.
McFithers noted that economic and trade contacts help shape alliances and partnerships. At the same time, he expressed satisfaction with joint efforts aimed at increasing the volume of trade and stimulating American investments in Armenia. "We would like Armenia to actively use the opportunities provided in the framework of the Generalized System of Preferences," the US official said.
The sides discussed the issues of the greatest expansion of trade and economic contacts and the corresponding regulatory framework, stressed the importance of the functioning of the Armenia-US Trade and Investment Council and the Armenian-American intergovernmental commission. The interlocutors noted with satisfaction that in recent years the volume of mutual trade increased, while stressing that the existing potential in bilateral relations, with the appropriate steps, can be used more effectively.
