ArmInfo. Since 8 June, Czech Airlines has resumed regular flights to Yerevan after a four-year hiatus. Flights between Yerevan and Prague will be performed twice a week by Airbus A319.
According to ATO, despite the fact that the flights were announced only until September 7, the return of an air carrier to the capital of Armenia after almost four years can be called indicative for the CIS as a whole.
Czech Airlines explained that the air service between Prague and Yerevan was interrupted due to the crisis in Russia, the fall of the ruble and currencies in the neighboring countries, and the subsequent decrease in demand for flights to the Czech Republic. "Last year the markets in Eastern Europe and the Trans Caucasian republics stabilized and in many respects returned to the level before the crisis of 2014. This is confirmed by the growing demand for air transportation not only from Russia, but also from Armenia to the Czech Republic. This is why we decided to return to the Armenian market and restore regular flights between Yerevan and Prague, "- commented the commercial director of Czech Airlines, Jan Toth.
According to him, this route is primarily intended for passengers coming from Armenia to Prague. "The flights link up with our regular flights to / from Germany, Belgium, France or Scandinavia, where a large Armenian Diaspora resides. But among Czech travelers in recent years the popularity of the Trans Caucasian directions has increased significantly, so we are firmly convinced that this route will enjoy a well-deserved interest and in the Czech Republic, "the airline said.
Back in March this year, ArmInfo announced about the forthcoming restoration of regular air flights between Prague and Yerevan. "The first flight will be held on June 8 this year," the Armenian embassy in the Czech Republic shared this news on the Facebook page. In the representative office of Czech Airlines in Armenia represented by the tourist company Visa Concord, ArmInfo correspondent was confirmed with information about the achievement of the preliminary agreement and the intention of the Czech side to resume regular air traffic. It was reported that the final decision of the Armenian aviation authorities is expected in the near future.
