Future plans of SCR in Armenia discussed in government

ArmInfo.Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan and General Director of South Caucasus Railways (SCR) Sergey Valko, discussed the activities of SCR in  Armenia and programs envisaged for implementation in the near future.

As the press service of the government reports, the interlocutors  also touched upon issues related to the development of transport  infrastructure, modernization, passenger and freight volumes,  providing access to services and increasing efficiency.

To recall,  South Caucasian Railway CJSC is a 100% subsidiary of  Russian Railways OJSC and conducts concession management of Armenian  railways. The railway infrastructure of Armenia was transferred to  the concession management of SCR under the agreement signed on  February 13, 2008. The term of concession management is 30 years with  the right of extension for another 10 years. According to the  National Statistical Service of the Armenia, rail freight traffic in  the first half of this year  increased by 6.9%- up to 1 434.8  thousand tons. At the same time, rail passenger transportation  increased by 7.5% to 159.6 thousand passengers.
