ArmInfo. It is not worth hoping that the visit of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan to Iran will give impetus to idle Armenian-Iranian projects. We need a long-term and consistent strategy.
ArmInfo expressed his opinion on energy security Vahe Davtyan.Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, who is on a two-day visit to Iran, has already met with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, the country's spiritual leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Mejlis Speaker Ali Larijani."First of all, we are talking about the Meghri hydroelectric station project, the oil refinery on the border between our countries, the oil pipeline connecting Tavriz with Meghri, and of course, the Iran-Armenia railway.
All of these are quite large-scale and capable of giving the economic partnership projects were suspended due to a lack of political will, for internal political reasons, "he stressed.Davtyan also reminded that the construction of Armenia-Iran high-voltage power transmission lines should have been completed already in 2019, but today only 20% of the works have been done. Meanwhile, as joint Iranian-Azerbaijani energy and transport and logistics projects are a major challenge for Armenia.
According to his estimates, Tehran is ready to buy electricity from Armenia at a reasonable price, and, above all, Yerevan's readiness to consistently deliver these supplies over the long term. Completion of the construction of transmission lines, according to his estimates, will give this readiness additional perspectives.According to the expert's assessments, the long-term and stable trade and economic cooperation, based on large-scale, energy and infrastructure mutually beneficial projects, can give Armenian-Iranian relations a specific content and predictability. According to Davtyan, despite the complexity of attracting foreign investors to joint projects with the participation of Iran, the implementation of these projects should certainly become the main target of Armenian diplomats. And the initiative to implement these projects should proceed from Yerevan, since it is Armenia that is the main interested party.
