ArmInfo.Construction of the Alaverdi highway (Armenia) - the border of Georgia will be completed in November 2020. Deputy Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technologies of the Republic of Armenia Bagrat Badalyan announced this on April 4 at the government meeting.
According to him, the restoration of a part of the 38 km highway, the financing of which was carried out with credit funds of the European Investment Bank, has already been completed. At the same time, 76 million drams were saved. The construction of another part of the highway of 51 km, in the financing of which the Asian Development Bank is participating, will require an additional 12.7 million drams to be used to solve problems with the alienation of property. These funds will be raised from saved resources. The Deputy Minister noted that construction is strictly on schedule. There were some problems associated with poor-quality canvas and the timing of the project, but now these problems are eliminated. At the same time, there is no need to attract additional funds from the state budget.
In turn, RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan pointed out the importance of conducting works of high quality and on time. He stressed that generally companies close to the previous authorities won tenders for road construction. And today they continue their activities in the same way. As an example, Nikol Pashinyan pointed out the Noemboyan-Voskepar road, which was to be commissioned at the end of last year. But today it remains unfinished, and the already constructed sections of the road are destroyed. According to the Prime Minister, it is necessary to bring to justice those who have committed such violations, and not limited to fines and pennies.
To note, the restoration and repair of the Alaverdi-Georgia border are carried out with funds from two major financial institutions, in particular, the Asian Development Bank, for which 3.4 billion drams is planned, of which 2.2 billion drams are credit funds, and 1.2 billion drams - co-financing by the state. The second major investor of the project is the European Investment Bank, under whose program for 2018 3.17 billion drams were sent to repair and repair the highway, including 2.4 billion drams as loan funds, and 816 million drams in as government co-financing.
38.5 km of road repair works started in September 2016. The European Investment Bank (EIB) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) allocated 15.5 billion drams for the repair of the first section of the road. Earlier it was planned that the work will be completed in March 2018. The length of the second segment is 51 km. As a result, road repairs will increase its level of safety and throughput. The program also repairs bridges and tunnels.
