ArmInfo. Russia and Armenia are planning to agree on a draft general scheme of gas supply and gasification of Armenia until 2030. This, according to TASS, was told to journalists by the first deputy head of the Russian government's office, Sergei Prikhodko, on the eve of the visit of Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev to Yerevan, where the EAEU Intergovernmental Council meeting will take place on April 30.
"Our countries are paying close attention to cooperation in the gas sector. Both current and future topics are being discussed. For example, there is an agreement to agree on a draft general scheme of gas supply and gasification of Armenia until 2030," he said. Prikhodko noted that Russia is the largest supplier of natural gas to Armenia, indicating that gas exports from Russia (about 2 billion cubic meters per year) fully meet the needs of Armenia. At the same time, supplies are carried out at preferential price (as compared to world prices), which are determined on a contractual basis.
The gas sale and purchase contract expired on December 31, 2018. At present, there is a supplementary agreement to the contract signed by Gazprom Export and Gazprom Armenia, which determines the price of gas for Armenia in 2019.
"Following the 19th meeting of the bilateral intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation, the intention was to hold the necessary domestic consultations by July 1, 2019 to determine the procedure and ensure the resumption of the intergovernmental agreement on pricing for the supply of natural gas to Armenia dated December 2, 2013," Prikhodko.
Answering the question whether the meeting of the EAEU Intergovernmental Council on April 30 would discuss the topic of eliminating the imbalance in energy prices in the Union, Prikhodko said that "the issue of energy prices in the Eurasian Economic Union will be resolved upon completion of the formation of common markets of electricity, gas and oil. " At meetings of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council, these issues are regularly reviewed, and the necessary regulatory and legal framework is systematically formed, he added.
