ArmInfo. AirBaltic CEO Martin Gauss (Martin Gauss) on May 28 in Riga at a meeting with Armenian Ambassador to Latvia Tigran Mkrtchyan (residence in Vilnius) praised the likelihood of the resumption of direct flights between Riga and Yerevan.
According to the press service of the Armenian Foreign Ministry, at the meeting Ambassador Mkrtchyan spoke about the reforms carried out by the Government of Armenia in the country's economy and, in particular, in the field of air transportation. According to him, direct air travel will stimulate the development of bilateral relations - tourism, economic relations and human contacts with the countries of the region.
Martin Gauss, in turn, noted that after the technical modernization and completion of the airline's development program for the coming years, the company will return to the resumption of direct flights with Armenia and the implementation of transit traffic.
It should be noted that in March 2013, the then head of the General Directorate of Civil Aviation of the Republic of Armenia (GUGA) Artem Movsesian stated that Latvian AirBaltic in 2012 stopped flights to Armenia for commercial and not any other reasons. According to him, the flight connection between Riga and Yerevan from the Latvian AirBaltic operated only during the summer season, and was subsequently discontinued due to the inconsistency of the airline in organizing the year-round service.
