ArmInfo. Interest rates in Armenia may drop. A similar forecast, when asked by journalists on June 11 during an event dedicated to the 12th general meeting of shareholders of the bank, was voiced by the Chairman of the Board, Executive Director of ARARATBANK Ashot Osipyan.
He noted that in 2018 in the banking system of Armenia there was a decrease in interest rates, which was mainly due to high competition in the market. In 2019, according to A. Osipyan, in addition to this factor, positive signals come from the international market. In this vein, he pointed to the Libor rate, which also decreases - from 2.8% at the beginning of the year to 2.4% in six months. "I believe that the policy of Trump led to the fact that in 2019 Libor will not show growth", - the banker concluded.
It should be noted that according to the data of the Central Bank of Armenia, interest rates on deposits decreased in 2015-2018 from 9.51% to 5.33%, and on loans - from 14.31% to 10.53%. This trend continued in 2019: in January-April, the rates on deposits decreased to 5.30%, and on loans - to 10.45%.
