ArmInfo. Five foreign companies responded to the invitation of the Armenian side to the construction of the Megri hydroelectric station on the border with Iran of the Araks River. About this ArmInfo correspondent was told by a source in energy circles, noting that among potential investors there are no companies with Armenian roots.
The source recalled that several months ago, Armenia and Iran made an official invitation to investors to take part in this project. At present, the source continued, all the proposals received are under study. "The project itself will go a long way. Even if we bear in mind that the submitted proposals will be studied by September of this year, it will take at least 1.5 years to negotiate with investors, moreover, 1.5 years of work in an emergency mode. Thus , directly to the construction work in this situation it will be possible to start at least 2 years later, "said the source.
To recall, on the eve of the 16th meeting of the Armenian-Iranian intergovernmental commission, Iran's Energy Minister Reza Ardakanian said that the private sector of Armenia plans to build a 100 MW hydroelectric power station on the Armenian-Iranian border. Earlier, ArmInfo reported that a feasibility study on the construction of the Meghri hydroelectric station on the Araks River was prepared by the Iranian consulting company Mahab Hodz, commissioned by the Iranian company for water and energy development. The feasibility study of ''Meghri'' HPP is implemented by Iranian ''Mahab Ghods'' consulting company by order of Iranian Water and Energy Development Company. The feasibility study development of Meghri HPP was coordinated and controlled by Armenian-Iranian Joint Technical Committee. In accordance with the feasibility study established in 2008 it is forseen to construct 2 HPPs on the river Araks: Meghri HPP in Armenian side and Gharachilar HPP on Iranian side In the framework of the RA and IRI inter-governmental commissions activities it was decided to construct Meghri HPP and Gharachilar HPP with 100 MW installed capacity each, taking into the considerations the water resources new survey results.
The Design discharge of the future hydropower facility will be 160 cubic meters. per second, the Design Power Capacity 100 MW, the Energy Production 793 million kWh. At the same time, Derivation length (tunnel) will be equal to 18.200 meters, and Tunnel Inner diameter -8.5 meters. Design head will be 90 meters.
