On August 20, the Deputy Minister of Economy of Armenia Artak Kamalyan met with representatives of the agricultural sector to discuss "Strategies (vision 2029) for the sustainable development of Armenian agriculture." The meeting was attended by representatives of the Agrarian University, a number of public organizations, experts, farmers and other responsible persons in the field.
According to the press service of the Ministry, Artak Kamalyan presented the competitive advantages of Armenia and a number of principles laid down as basis of the document. In particular, the orientation of the sector to quality, increasing youth involvement in the agricultural sector, diversification of agriculture and risk management, adaptation to climate change and environmental stability, as well as technological modernization were indicated as basic principles.
Improving the competitiveness and productivity of the agricultural sector, ensuring food safety, developing local markets and increasing export opportunities, developing human and institutional capacities, promoting sustainable development of rural communities, stimulating digital agriculture and technological innovation in the field were called priorities of the sector.
It was noted that it is planned to carry out land reform, to promote small and medium-sized farms for their transition to modern, technologically equipped agriculture.
According to Kamalyan, an action plan for implementing the strategy will be developed and submitted for discussion in the near future.
