ArmInfo.The Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the RA Seyyed Kazem Sajjad and the head of the Central Bank of Armenia Artur Javadyan stressed the need to expand banking and monetary cooperation between the two countries.
According to IRNA, the parties at this meeting, held on August 27 in Yerevan, called the development of banking cooperation and holding banking seminars important for transferring experience.
Expressing Armenia's readiness to expand cooperation with Iran, A. Javadyan noted that the development of banking relations with Tehran is on the agenda of Yerevan.
It should be noted that since July 2005, a subsidiary of the Iranian Mellat Bank has been operating in Armenia.
According to the RA Statistical Committee, the volume of foreign trade turnover between Armenia and Iran in 2018 reached $ 363.6 million, with a y-o-y growth of 40.5%. In particular, exports increased by 12% per annum - to $ 94.2 million, with a more impressive import growth - by 54.2% to $ 269.4 million. In terms of foreign trade turnover among Armenia's trading partners, Iran ranked fifth in 2018, and import volume - the fourth.
To recall, Russia recently announced the need to develop relations with Iran in the banking sector. Russian Ambassador to Tehran Levan Jagaryan noted that the banking networks of Iran and Russia will be merged in the near future, which will make it possible to significantly simplify financial transactions between the two countries.
