ArmInfo. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan calls for abandoning polyethylene and switching to a cloth bag.
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan went to the store the day before, posted a photo on Facebook, making the corresponding entry: "We refuse plastic bags and take reusable cloth bags for shopping." Note that plastic bags, bottles, cups have become the main environmental problem in the whole world - they decompose for tens and hundreds of years, cause irreparable harm to marine ecosystems and birds, pollute the seas, shores, forests. Many countries resort to various measures to combat the use of disposable plastic, including introducing a fee for them. In the EU countries, as an alternative to supermarkets, they offer free distribution of alternative substitutes - reusable biodegradable and paper bags. They must accept used plastic bags for recycling.
In Armenia itself, in 2016, when only plastic bags in Armenian markets and supermarkets became paid, those in charge of the sphere stated that this was done also in order to protect the environment. As the then Minister of Ecology Artsvik Minasyan told reporters on October 20 after a government meeting, the measure will force the business to turn its eyes towards the introduction of environmentally friendly, paper bags. To this day, plastic bags are paid, but the issue of introducing environmental ones is still hanging in the air.
