ArmInfo.According to the data of the analytical agency AUTOSTAT, the market volume of new passenger cars of Armenia in the first ten months of this year increased by 1.9 thousand units. This, as analysts of the agency note, is 10% more than for the same period last year.
About 35% of the local automobile market falls on the Japanese Toyota brand - from January to October, residents of Armenia purchased 650 of these cars. The second place with a big margin is occupied by MercҐdes-Benz (140 units). Also during the reporting period, about 100 LADA, LEXUS and Nissan cars were sold. Other brands have significantly lower indicators.
It should be noted that since 2015, when the transition period for the application of the common customs duties of the EAEU countries was set for the republic, by 2019 inclusive, 197 thousand cars worth $ 528.3 million were imported into the country. Most of all cars imported to Armenia are with 1.5 - 1.8 liters capacity, over the age of 7 years engine. And this is about 70% of the total volume of car imports to Armenia. In 2019, compared with 2015, the physical volume of car imports to Armenia grew 72-fold. If 1,170 cars were imported in 2015, then already in 2019, imports amounted to 84.3 thousand units. This indicates that these machines are intended not only for Armenia, but also for resale to neighboring countries. According to the data of the State Revenue Committee of the Republic of Armenia, in the first half of the current year alone 474 cars were exported from the republic, compared to 200 for the same period of the previous year. Most of the cars were exported to Russia - 283, then to Georgia - 84, China - 75, with 15 delivered to Germany.
From January 2020, duties, especially on old cars that are now imported into Armenia because of cheapness, will be equated to the Eurasian tariff.
