ArmInfo. Interstate Highway Vanadzor-Alaverdi - Georgia border has been open for all types of vehicles since December 18. This is stated in the message of the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructures of the Republic of Armenia. According to the source, this section of the road was closed to heavy vehicles and trailers due to construction work.
To recall, on this road repair work is being carried out on loans from the Asian Development Bank in the amount of $ 50 million, in particular, it is about the modernization of part of the M-6 road (Vanadzor - Alaverdi - Georgian border) with a length of almost 51.5 km. The implementation of the program will allow solving the issue of employment, improving the social situation, and assisting the agricultural and tourism sectors.
Armenia will receive a loan of EUR 102 million for the implementation of the project from the European Investment Bank. The program will be co-financed by the European Investment Bank and the Asian Development Bank. The goal of the program is to restore the M-6 interstate highway 90 km long from Vanadzor to Bagratashen. The restoration of the program is planned to be completed within 2-2.5 years. As part of the program, it is planned to expand the roadbed, as well as make changes to some of its sections, increase the level of safety and completely modernize the tunnel systems. This section of the road accounts for about 60% of the intensity of cargo transportation from Armenia.
