ArmInfo.June 20, the transit tariff for trucks going via Georgia has been almost doubled. The cargo reexport tariff has been raided as well.
As regards the consequences of the decision for Armenia's exporters, economist Suren Parsyan said that it is a 75% rise in tariffs. "The amount is not large. However, with the cargo traffic, rising energy prices and transport services considered, it will prove a blow to Armenia's exporters," he said.
This year alone, Armenia's exporters have sustained substantial losses due to rising transport expenses and delay at the Upper Lars checkpoint. A as result, the cargo was spoiled in transit. Every day of delay is worth $100.
The tariff for each van has been raised from GEL 200 to GEL 350.
"It will certainly cause a rise in the price for products and affect the competitiveness of Armenian products on foreign markets, particularly on the Russian market," the expert said.
Georgia is the only transit country between Armenia and Russia.
This January-April, car traffic totaled 5,031.9 thousand tons. The share of motor trucking was 3,233.1 thousand tons (64.3%).
