ArmInfo. July 29 to August 2, 2024, USD transactions showed a growth, with a decline in RUB and EUR ones in Armenia's interbank foreign exchange market. Three USD, three RUB transactions and one EUR transaction were effected during the period under review.
USD transactions showed a 2.3-fold growth against a 50% decline, with EUR transactions showing a 67% decline against a 25% decline, and RUB transactions showed a 50% decline against a 38.5% growth As a result, the total amount of USD transactions exceeded the total amount of RUB transactions 1.7-fold, whereas USD transactions exceeded EUR transactions 16.6-fold (against 2.5-fold) and RUB transactions exceeded EUR ones 9.6-fold.
During the period under review against the previous period (July 29 to August 2, 2024), in the intrabank foreign exchange market, USD purchases and sales showed a growth against a decline, EUR purchases showed a growth against a decline, with a much slower growth in EUR sales. RUB purchases showed a moderately accelerating growth, with RUB sales showing a growth against a decline.
July 29 to August 2, 2024, the USD/AMD exchange rate remained 387.8/$1, and the AMD/RUB exchange rate remaining AMD 4.5/RUB 1, with further AMD appreciation against the EUR (AMD 421/EUR 1 to AMD 420/EUR 1).
On August 2, 2023, the AMD/USD exchange rate was AMD 386.3/$1, AMD/EUR exchange rate, AMD 424/EUR 1 and AMD/RUB exchange rate, AMD 4.2/RUB 1, which is evidence of y/y AMD depreciation against the USD and RUB, with AMD appreciation against the EUR.
For the period under review, the CBA reports three USD transactions (except for July 29 and August 1, 2024), with three RUB transactions effected (except for July 29 and 31), with EUR transactions effected on July 30. No transactions were effected on July 29.
As a result, $9mln transactions were effected at an average exchange rate of AMD 388.72/$1 (against AMD 388.55/$1 the previous week), RUB 450mln transactions, at an average exchange rate of AMD 4.5/RUB 1 (against AMD 4.45/RUB 1 the previous week), with the only EUR transaction, EUR 500,000, effected at an average exchange rate of AMD 420.5/EUR 1 (against AMD 421/EUR 1 the previous week).
The period under review saw the largest volume of USD transactions, on July 31 - $4mln, with the largest volume of RUB transactions effected on August 2, RUB 250mln.
July 29 to August 2, 2024, against the period under review (July 22 to 26, 2024), in Armenia's intrabank foreign exchange market, USD purchases showed a 7% growth against a 0.2% decline, with USD sales showing a 18.1% growth against a 3% decline. EUR purchases showed a 25.4%growth against a 23.7% decline, with EUR sales showing a 5.1% growth against a 35.6% growth. RUB purchases showed a 9.3% growth against a 5.9% growth, RUB sales showed a 17% growth against a 27.6|% decline.
During the period under review, purchases totaled $128.4 mln at an average exchange rate of AMD 386.45/$1, EUR 31.4mln at an average exchange rate of AMD 416.46/EUR 1, and RUB 20.8bln at an average exchange rate of AMD 4.48/RUB 1. USD sales exceeded $252.8mln at an average exchange rate of AMD 389.23/$1, EUR sales exceeded 87.2mln at an average exchange rate of AMD 423.78/EUR 1, and RUB sales exceeded RUB 3.3bln at an average exchange rate of AMD 4.56/RUB 1. The largest USD purchases were recorded on July 31 ($34.1mln) and the largest USD sales were recorded on July 30 ($65.3mln), with the largest RUB purchases and sales recorded on July 29 (5.1bln mln and 1.1bln respectively). The largest EUR purchases was recorded on August 2 (EUR 8.1mln), with the largest EUR sales recorded on July 31 (EUR 22.2mln).
In January-April, 2024, the CBA made $20mln interventions in Armenia's foreign exchange market (in April alone), with only purchase transactions effected. The AMD/USD exchange rate was AMD 388.63/$1 this April against AMD 386.60/$1 last September, when purchase translations were last effected, with greater depreciation against December 2022 (AMD 393.50/$1).
In January-April, 2024, in the interbank foreign exchange market, purchases totaled $1.99 bln, EUR 436.2 mln and RUB 240.7bln, and sales totaled $3.1bln, exceeded EUR 1.2bln and RUB 71.9blm, which formed the following buying rates in April 2024: the AMD 389.37/$1, AMD 415.10/EUR 1 and AMD 4.19/RUB 1 against AMD 402.72/$1, and AMD 437.90/EUR 1 and RUB 4.43/1 RUB in December 2023. The selling rates were as follow: AMD 392.47/$1, AMD, 423.62/EUR 1, and AMD 4.23/RUB 1 against AMD 406.14/$1, AMD 445.57/EUR 1 and AMD 4.5/RUB 1 in December 2023.
In January-April 2024, on the interbank foreign exchange market, $286.1mln, EUR 20.1mln and RUB 7.1bln transactions were effected, which was accompanied by AMD appreciation against the RUB to AMD 4.2/RUB 1 and against the USD and EUR, AMD 390.65/$1 and 415.56/EUR 1 respectively, as against AMD 4.47/RUB 1, AMD 405.62/$1 and EUR 444.30/EUR 1 respectively.
RUB transactions on the foreign exchange interbank of Armenia started on March 14, 2022, with RUB 8.8bln transactions effected until the end of that year, with RUB 17.5bln transactions effected in 2023. This was accompanied by AMD depreciation against the RUB in March-December 2022 - AMF 4.86 to AMD 5.8/RUB 1, with AMD appreciation against the RUB to AMD 4.47/RUB 1 by the end of 2023. The foreign exchange stock market has remained idle for the eight year.
