AMD 53ml penalty imposed on Global Shipping company for unfair competition

ArmInfo. The Commission for the  Protection of Competition (CPC) of Armenia has imposed a fine of  about 53 million drams on Global Shipping for unfair competition.

According to the press service of the CPC, the commission accuses the  company of misleading consumers.  In particular, it was found that  Global Shipping violated the declared delivery times for air  transportation from China to Armenia. The commission recorded that at  least 26% of air transportation, for which the delivery time was  declared to be 5-10 working days, were carried out in violation of  the ten-day period.  This concerned the period from January 1, 2022  to April 25, 2023.

In addition, the main page of the Global Shipping website stated that  the delivery times are conditional and the company is not responsible  for their violation. However, in the "General Terms and Conditions"  section of the same website, the period was indicated as 5-10  business days.

We will add that the commission reviewed similar practices of other  international companies engaged in delivery, such as FedEx, DHL,  eBay. It also studied the experience of the relevant institutions of  Georgia and Poland. In addition, the consideration of the case took  into account the concept of "dark patterns" ("manipulation"), which  characterizes situations when delivery times mislead consumers due to  inaccuracy or unclear wording.

The UAE company Global Shipping is engaged in international air  transportation and car import.
