ArmInfo. Russia continues to be the primary supplier of wheat, flour and corn to Armenia. According to the RA Customs Service, in 2023, Armenia imported 343.6 thousand tons of wheat, which is 5.8% lower compared to the previous year. At the same time, the Russian Federation accounted 99.9% of these imports, with the remaining volume divided between Hungary and Kazakhstan. The customs value of the imported wheat also decreased by 38.6% to $62.8 million. Wheat exports from Armenia decreased by 96.6% to 122.8 tons, with a 75.4% decrease in customs value to $179.4 thousand. The entire volume was destined for the Russian market. During the reporting period, 65.5 thousand tons of wheat flour were imported into the country, showing a 2-fold increase from the previous year, with a decrease in customs value by 11.2% to $10 million. 99.5% of wheat flour supplies were imported from Russia, while the remaining volume came from Italy, Kazakhstan, China, Belarus, France, Germany and Spain. In the same period, Armenia increased its wheat flour exports by 5.9 times to 35.1 tons.
The customs value of exported wheat flour increased by 5.5 times to $22.1 thousand. The majority of exports (92%) went to the US market with 4% each going to the Russian Federation and Bahrain.
According to customs data, from 2023, Armenia reduced its corn imports by 28.8% to 69.4 thousand tons, with a 45.2% decrease in customs value to $13.5 million. The primary market for corn imports for Armenia was Russia (99.8%), with the remaining volume imported from Austria, Turkey, Hungary, Italy, Ukraine, Chile, Romania, Serbia and France. According to the RA Statistical Committee, the production of finely ground wheat and rye flour in Armenia decreased by 4% in 2023, totalling over 175.6 thousand tons.
