ArmInfo. It is necessary to resolve the issue of poor quality of electricity supply to consumers in Armenia, Armenia's Premier Nikol Pashinyan stated at a meeting of the Government of the Republic of Armenia on September 5.
According to him, during visits to various regions of the country, local residents repeatedly complained about frequent power outages. Moreover, the complaints come from representatives of culture, sports, and agriculture. "The power outage during a government meeting should have been a signal to all of us about the existence of serious problems," Pashinyan said, adding that a meeting would be convened in the near future to provide explanations regarding the problem that had arisen. The Prime Minister pointed out the need to develop a clear program to solve it. "This issue must be resolved as soon as possible, since, in my opinion, the problem is only getting worse. I expect a clear program from the Public Services Regulatory Commission and the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure to get out of the current situation," the head of the Cabinet noted. He added that from a global point of view, Armenia has reached a new level of development. The pace of modernization and creation of energy infrastructures is no longer keeping pace with the pace of economic growth, which has led to the formation of a crack.
In this regard, the Chairman of the PSRC Garegin Baghramyan pointed out the sharp increase in the number of subscribers over the past two years. In order to connect them to the electric power system, it was necessary to allocate 4 billion drams annually, which was initially recorded in the 10-year investment program of the Electric Networks of Armenia. However, the sharp increase in subscribers has led to the fact that in 2024 alone, 26 billion drams need to be allocated for these purposes. We are talking not only about new consumers, but also about new enterprises and offices. In this regard, ESA is forced to reduce investments in improving the quality of customer service. Three measures have already been taken in this direction, aimed at accumulating the necessary financial resources in order to have a stable margin and not affect the final tariff for consumers. Let us recall that the day before at a press conference, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Tashir Group of Companies, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Electric Networks of Armenia CJSC Karen Darbinyan noted that the company is an important, but not the only structure in the issue of frequent power outages. As an example, he cited cases of power outages during a theatrical performance, a football match, automatic shutdown of the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant, and a fire at the Yerevan Hydroelectric Power Plant. Research has shown that the company has nothing to do with any of these cases.
