ArmInfo. September 23 to 27, 2024, USD and EUR transactions showed a growth, with RUB transactions showing a serious decline in Armenia's interbank foreign exchange market. Four USD, three EUR and two RUB transactions were effected during the period under review, with USD, EUR and RUB transactions simultaneously effected on Wednesday alone.
USD transactions showed a 9-fold growth against an 83.5% decline, with RUB transactions showing a 52.5% decline against a 2.5-fold growth. with EUR transactions showing a 5.2-fold growth,
Due to more active USD transactions, the total amount of USD transactions exceeded the total amount of RUB transactions 5.2-fold, whereas USD transactions exceeded EUR transactions 2.3-fold.
During the period under review against the previous period (September 16 to 20, 2024), in the intrabank foreign exchange market, USD purchases showed a decline, with USD sales showing a further decline, EUR purchases showed a growth, with a decline in EUR sales. RUB purchases and sales showed a further decline.
September 23 to 27, 2024, saw AMD depreciation against the USD - AMD 386.5/$1 to AMD 387.5/$1, AMD appreciation against the EUR - AMD 432/EUR 1 to AMD 431/EUR 1, with AMD/RUB exchange rate remaining at AMD 4.17/RUB 1.
On September 27, 2023, the AMD/USD exchange rate was AMD 392/$1, AMD/EUR exchange rate, AMD 415/EUR 1 and AMD/RUB exchange rate, AMD 4.03/RUB 1, which is evidence of y/y AMD depreciation against the EUR and RUB, with AMD appreciation against the USD.
For the period under review, the CBA reports four USD, three EUR and two RUB transactions in Armenia's interbank foreign exchange. Transactions with all three currencies were effected only on September 25. As a result, $26.569mln transactions were effected at an average exchange rate of AMD 387.76/$1 (against AMD 387.47/$1 the previous week), RUB 475mln transactions, at an average exchange rate of AMD 4.17/RUB 1, EUR 10.43mln transactions, effected at an average exchange rate of AMD 432.2/EUR 1 (against AMD 430.42/EUR 1). The period under review saw the largest volume of USD, EUR and RUB transactions was recorded on September 25 ($10.069, EUR 6.93mln and RUB 300mln).
September 23 to 27, 2024, against the period under review (September 16 to 20, 2024), in Armenia's intrabank foreign exchange market, USD purchases showed a 34.5% growth against a 36% growth, with USD sales showing a 6% decline against a 9.8% decline. EUR purchases showed a 21.1% growth against a 18.8% growth, with EUR sales showing a 16.2% decline against a 30.4% growth. RUB purchases showed a 15.1% decline against a 9.3% decline, and RUB sales showed a 4% decline against a 7.8% decline.
During the period under review, USD purchases exceeded $116.3 mln at an average exchange rate of AMD 385.95/$1, exceeded EUR 42.9mln at an average exchange rate of AMD 428.52/EUR 1, and RUB 7.6bln at an average exchange rate of AMD 4.15/RUB 1. USD sales totaled $147.1 mln at an average exchange rate of AMD 388.56/$1, EUR sales totaled 64.4mln at an average exchange rate of AMD 434.77/EUR 1, and RUB sales RUB 2.9bln at an average exchange rate of AMD 4.24/RUB 1. The largest USD purchases and sales were reported on September 23 and September 25 respectively ($24.443mln and $33mln respectively). The largest EUR purchases and sales were recorded on September 25 (EUR 13.1mln and EUR 20.1respectively). The largest RUB purchases were recorded on September 24 (over RUB 1.8bln) with the largest RUB sales recorded on September 23 (RUB 754.1mln).
In January-July, 2024, the CBA made $366.5mln interventions in Armenia's foreign exchange market only in April-July, with only purchase transactions effected ($20mln in April, $136.5mln in May, $100mln in June and $110mln in July). The AMD/USD exchange rate was AMD 388.78/$1 this July against AMD 386.60/$1 last September, when purchase translations were last effected, with greater depreciation against December 2022 (AMD 393.50/$1).
In January-July, 2024, in the intrabank foreign exchange market, purchases totaled $3.6bln, EUR 881.4mln and RUB 535.5mln, and sales totaled $5.9 bln, and EUR 2.3bln and RUB 171.5bln, which formed the following buying rates in July 2024: the AMD 386.43/$1, AMD 416.5/EUR 1 and AMD 4.41/RUB 1 against AMD 402.72/$1, and AMD 437.90/EUR 1 and RUB 4.43/1 RUB in December 2023. The selling rates were as follow: AMD 389.43/$1, AMD, 423.55/EUR 1, and AMD 4.49/RUB 1 against AMD 406.14/$1, AMD 445.57/EUR 1 and AMD 4.5/RUB 1 in December 2023.
In January-July 2024, on the interbank foreign exchange market, $384.6 mln, EUR 27.1mln (with no EUR transactions effected this June) and RUB 18.6bln transactions were effected, which was accompanied by AMD appreciation against the RUB to AMD 4.41/RUB 1 and against the USD, AMD 388.74/$1 and against the EUR, AMD 421.18/EUR 1, this July against AMD 4.47/RUB 1, AMD 405.62/$1 and EUR 444.30/EUR 1 respectively in December 2023. The largest volume of RUB transactions, RUB 4.5bln, was recorded this June, with the largest volume of USD and EUR transactions was recorded this January ($92.7mln and EUR 11.7mln).
RUB transactions on the interbank foreign exchange market of Armenia started on March 14, 2022, with RUB 8.7bln transactions effected until the end of that year, with RUB 17.5bln transactions effected in 2023. This was accompanied by AMD depreciation against the RUB in March-December 2022 - AMD 4.86 to AMD 5.8/RUB 1, with AMD appreciation against the RUB to AMD 4.47/RUB 1 by the end of 2023.
This June-July, after an 8-year-long interval, the foreign exchange stock market saw $7.9mln transactions, accompanied by AMD depreciation - AMD 388.91/$1 this July against AMD 388.9/$1 this June.
