ArmInfo. Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Hakob Vardanyan, who oversees the energy sector, confirmed that he submitted his resignation letter to the RA Prime Minister.
"Yes, I submitted a letter, and I did it of my own free will," Vardanyan told ArmInfo without explaining the reasons.
A day earlier, it became known about the resignation of the Chairman of the Public Services Regulatory Commission (PSRC) of the Republic of Armenia Garegin Baghramyan.
It is curious that the resignations of officials who were involved in energy regulation issues followed immediately after a meeting held by RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on the problems of electricity supply to consumers. Frequent power outages, including during a government meeting, caused a sharply negative reaction from the Prime Minister.
The idea of the need to nationalize the Electric Networks of Armenia CJSC has been actively promoted recently. The deputies of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia from the ruling Civil Contract faction are particularly active in this issue, believing that the ownership of the networks by the Russian businessman of Armenian nationality Samvel Karapetyan is a dangerous phenomenon from the point of view of the security of the Armenian state. Apparently, the "passivity" of officials who did not show due attitude to Pashinyan's demand became the reason for the resignation.
