ArmInfo. Considering the ever- increasing volume of cargo transportation between Armenia and Iran, Yerevan and Tehran reached an agreement on constructing a second bridge across the Araks River. RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan made this statement during a joint briefing with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on August 19 in Yerevan.
According to him, several infrastructure programs between the Republic of Armenia and the Islamic Republic of Iran have already entered the implementation stage. One of them is the 32-km Kajaran-Agarak road section of the North-South investment program, the contractor of which is an Iranian company. These programs are of strategic importance for Armenia, the prime minister added. He recalled that earlier the countries have set a strategic milestone to increase bilateral trade turnover first up to $1 billion, and then up to $3 billion. "Today we can already state that we have actually approached the $1 billion mark and are consistently working towards reaching the next target. This will be largely facilitated by the FTA agreement between Iran and the EAEU," Pashinyan said.
One of the most important programs in the energy sector is the construction of a 400-kV Iran-Armenia power transmission line 3. "The issue was discussed. There is a clear mutual understanding that the project should be completed in the shortest possible time. This will allow Armenia to export more electricity to Iran," the prime minister said.
Pashinyan emphasized that Armenia attaches particular importance to its strategic relations with Iran. He expressed confidence that the active and consistent efforts of both governments will make it possible to implement bilateral strategic programs for the benefit of the peoples of the two countries.
