ArmInfo.The sale of HSBC Bank Armenia (HSBC Armenia) to Ardshinbank is expected to complete on  November 29, 2024. At completion of the transaction, HSBC Armenia will become a wholly owned subsidiary of Ardshinbank and will be renamed Ardshininvestbank CJSC, as noted in the statement of HSBC Bank Armenia.

ArmInfo. The banking system in the world is becoming more local.  That's how the Governor of the Central Bank of Armenia, Martin Galstyan, explained HSBC's exit from a number of countries, including Armenia, during a press conference on July 30.  "Global players, who after the collapse of the USSR considered this territory a large field for expansion, in my opinion, no longer think so. Everyone is returning to local jurisdictions," he said. As an example, Galstyan named such large players as HSBC and City Bank.  According to the head of the Central Bank, this is due to the fact that there are many risks in the Region, not only geopolitical, but also sanctions. Working in this Region has become extremely costly in terms of compliance and adherence to the rules of the game.

ArmInfo. The HSBC group has been moving its capital and focusing on its preferred markets, as has been the policy in recent years. Only since 2021, as noted by the Chairman of the Union of Banks of Armenia (UBA) Daniel Azatyan during a press conference, the Group has withdrawn from 7 countries, including retail lending in France, the USA, Greece, etc.

ArmInfo. The likelihood of attracting a new international brand to the Armenian financial market  is quite low. Economist Haykaz Fanyan expressed a similar opinion on his Facebook page, commenting on the HSBC's withdrawal from Armenian market.

ArmInfo."HSBC Bank Armenia" CJSC (HSBC Armenia) will donate 150 sets of computer workstations to students in socially vulnerable communities in Armenia to support their remote learning needs amidst COVID-19 and beyond. The workstations will be given to HSBC Armenia's charity partner Jinishian Memorial Foundation, which will help identify and select the final beneficiaries and distribute the workstations to them.
