Armenia`s external debt is significantly concentrated on World Bank loans

ArmInfo. The structure of Armenia's external debt is moderately diversified. Debt for multi-country credit programs dominates in the total volume of external debt ($ 5.1 billion by October 1, 2017) - 66.7% or $ 3.4 billion. Then, non-residents' investments in Armenian Eurobonds - 17.3% or $ 873.4 million, and debts under bilateral credit programs ($ WB: IDA - $ 1.1 billion and IBRD - $ 659.5 million), by 11% ($ 550.9 million), and the increase in the number of loans made by the World Bank amounted to 14.4% or $ 730.4 million.

Prime Minister of Armenia Karen Karapetyan stated  at the press conference, commenting on the fact that in the World  Bank's Doing Business ranking - 2018 Armenia retreated by 9 points.  "Despite the fact that we have surrendered our positions, in this  rating we are located next to Belgium, so we need to take a rational  approach to such ratings," the prime minister said. At the same time  he pointed to the weaknesses of Armenia, which led to the reduction  of the republic's positions in this rating - the judicial system, the  process of bankruptcy and bank lending. "As for the sphere of bank  lending, we are already taking concrete steps to remedy the  situation," he said.

ArmInfo. According to the published World Bank rating Doing Business - 2018, Armenia not only did not retain its positions, but slid down. This fact at the meeting of the RA Government had to be ascertained by RA Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan.  According to him, the report shows that the republic, in spite of improvement of five indicators out of 11, however, by 9 points deteriorated its rating. At the same time, as the prime minister noted, in others the progress of Armenia is obvious. In particular, in the index the global competitiveness of the World Economic Forum Armenia moved from the 79th place to the 73rd, and in the index of economic freedom, calculated annually by the Wall Street Journal and the Heritage Foundation research center, the republic rose from the 54th to the 33rd horizontal.

ArmInfo. In the World Bank's  annual Doing Business 2018 rating on the terms of reference business  in the states of the world, Armenia deteriorated its position by 9  points. The Republic is located on the 47th place, between Italy  (46th place) and Hungary (48th place).  Despite the worsening of the  position, Armenia improved its performance on several rating  criteria. In particular, the World Bank experts note the progress  recorded in Armenia in terms of "business start-up", "construction  permission", "connection to electricity networks", etc.

At the same time, the medium-term forecasts on the GDP growth of the Central Bank changed insignificantly: in 2018 - 2.8-4.2% against the previous 2.7- 4.5%, in 2019 - 3.2-4.8% against the previous 3.1- 5.2%, in the first half of the year 2020 - 3.7-5.4%.
