Head of Central Bank of Armenia: Financial Ombudsman's Office of Armenia has received over 1.6 thsd complaints since its start-up

The Financial Ombudsman's Office of Armenia has received over 1.6 thsd complaints since its start-up, Chairman of the Central Bank of Armenia Artur Javadyan said at today's conference "The Financial Ombudsman's Institute aimed at consolidating the public confidence and enhancing the role of financial mediation", which will last till October 29.
The constant growth of complaints and continuous consolidation of the cooperation with financial organizations demonstrate the viability and effectiveness of the given structure. At the same time, the amount of compensations paid to the customers in the financial sphere over Q3 2011 amounted to 89 mln AMD.
Javadyan also pointed out that the regulator's decision on introduction of the Financial Ombudsman's Institute was dictated by the necessity to support the stability of the financial market, and the CBA is constantly holding events aimed at developing the structure and raising the public awareness of its activity.
"It is important to point out the fact that Armenia was the first CIS country to set up the Financial Ombudsman's Institute, and I hope that our experience may successfully be applied in any other CIS state", Javadyan stressed.
The financial ombudsperson, Piruz Sargsyan, said in her turn that the informed consumer is first of all needed for raising of the financial mediation in Armenia and added that the structure often holds programmes directed to raising of financial education of customers.
To note, the purpose of holding of Conference is to learn international experience of financial ombudsmen as well as to assess effectiveness of the out of court ways for settlement of financial arguments. The total number of participants in the second conference is 130, including representatives of financial market and financial ombudsmen of Armenia, the CIS countries and Europe. The discussions on the card and insurance wastes, mortgage contracts and consumer credits and OSAGO problems will be organized within the frames of the conference.
To recall, Armenian financial ombudsman has been acting in Armenia since the beginning of 2009 and delivering services free of charge, as financial organizations pay for his job.
