Armenia's financial ombudsperson: number of complaints against financial organizations rises
Arminfo. The number of complaints submitted to the Financial Ombudsperson as well as the number of cases with a positive solution is increasing year by year, Armenian Financial Ombudsperson Piruz Sargsyan told reporters today.
According to her, the number of complaints against financial organizations, including banks and insurance companies, has increased abruptly.
The average number of complaints submitted to the Financial Ombudsperson rose by about 175% in 2012 versus 2011, she said. As for the current year, in Jan-Sept 2013, the number of complaints reached 1298, 535 of which were submitted in the written form. About 50% of them were solved in favor of clients. Financial organizations paid a total of over AMD 108 million compensation to clients with the mediation of the Financial Ombudsperson during the three quarters of 2013, versus AMD 134 million for 2012.
To note, services of financial ombudsperson, which has been functioning in Armenia since 2009, are offered free of charge, as financial organizations themselves pay for them.
