ArmInfo. Since July 1, 2018 in Armenia, the sale of all domestic meat should be made through slaughterhouses of the republic. This was reported by the press service of the State Food Safety Service.
According to the source, in order to smooth transition to a new system of procurement, the civil service continues to consult with meat market operators in the country. On June 23, such consultations were held in the Yezidi community, which traditionally practices cattle breeding. The head of the Service, Ishkhan Karapetyan, in particular, raised the issue of the need to build slaughterhouses, informing that 15 slaughterhouses are not enough to meet the needs of all regions of the country in meat from slaughterhouses. He stressed that the slaughter of domestic animals in the streets and yards will be ruled out, as it contradicts sanitary and hygienic standards. Ishkhan Karapetyan assured that the department headed by him, within the limits of his powers, will provide the cattlemen in the construction of slaughterhouses the necessary professional assistance.
